Nigeria’s Super Eagles have booked their place in the final of the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs after a convincing 4–1 victory over Gabon on Thursday.

The result sends Nigeria into a decisive showdown against the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the winner advancing to represent Africa in the intercontinental playoff scheduled for March 2026.

The Super Eagles dominated the semi-final encounter, with Victor Osimhen emerging the hero after scoring twice in extra time to seal the emphatic win.

Earlier in the day, DR Congo pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the playoffs after defeating Cameroon 1–0. Captain Chancel Mbemba nodded home a dramatic stoppage-time winner to hand his country a lifeline in the race for a World Cup ticket.

The highly anticipated Nigeria vs DR Congo final will take place on Sunday at the newly constructed Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, where only one team will move a step closer to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
