When Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq assumed office as Governor of Kwara State in 2019 through the historic Otoge movement, he inherited a broken and deeply neglected education system. At the time, many public schools were in a deplorable condition—classrooms with fallen roofs, cracked walls, and broken furniture were common sights across the state. Salaries of teachers were either delayed or unpaid, promotions were stagnant, and morale among education workers had sunk to its lowest. The sector, which should have been the bedrock of development, had been left to rot.
However, in just a few short years, Governor Abdulrazaq has orchestrated a transformation that has breathed new life into education in Kwara State. What was once a crumbling structure is now being rebuilt into one of excellence and renewed purpose. His administration has proven that real change is not just a campaign promise—it is achievable with political will and genuine commitment.
One of the most notable indicators of this transformation is the massive investment in modern school infrastructure. Across the three senatorial districts, schools have been renovated or rebuilt entirely, with standard classrooms, improved learning environments, and basic facilities that support effective teaching and learning. This infrastructural renewal has especially benefitted rural communities, which for years were left behind in government priorities.
In tandem with structural improvements, Governor Abdulrazaq has prioritized the welfare of teachers, ensuring the consistent and timely payment of salaries. This singular effort has restored dignity and motivation within the teaching workforce. For the first time in many years, teachers are receiving deserved promotions, allowing them to grow professionally and serve with pride. These efforts have rekindled passion and accountability in classrooms, creating a ripple effect on students’ performance.
Beyond physical structures and salary reforms, the Abdulrazaq-led administration has invested in capacity building and innovative learning solutions. Teachers are being trained and retrained to meet 21st-century educational standards. The government has also introduced digital tools into the learning process, promoted community involvement in school management, and expanded access through inclusive education policies.
Today, the outcomes are visible and verifiable. Pupils across the state now learn in safer, cleaner, and better-equipped environments. Teachers are more enthusiastic and committed. School attendance has improved, and Kwara State is now receiving commendation from education-focused institutions and development partners.
Indeed, under the stewardship of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Kwara’s education system has moved from neglect to recognition, from decay to development. It is no exaggeration to say that the state is experiencing an educational rebirth—one that places it firmly on the path of sustainable growth and human capital development.
The efforts of Governor Abdulrazaq in reviving the education sector deserve applause. His government has redefined governance in Kwara through bold reforms, people-centered policies, and unwavering dedication to future generations. As Kwarans, it is only right that we acknowledge this progress and rally behind a vision that puts education at the heart of development. With continued support, there is no doubt that Kwara will rise even higher.
