The Kwara State Government has announced a temporary shutdown of the Kwara Garment Factory to facilitate pre-handover maintenance and an inventory check as the facility transitions to new management.
This follows the recent completion of a public procurement process for the outsourcing of the factory’s management, as advertised earlier in national newspapers. A preferred bidder has now emerged, paving the way for a seamless handover.
According to an official statement signed by Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, all civil servants seconded to the garment factory have been directed to return to their respective ministries.
The statement further advised trainees at the factory to apply to the newly selected management company for possible engagement. In the interim, all trainees will receive a one-month training allowance.
“This temporary shutdown will enable the new management to conduct maintenance works and take stock of existing assets in preparation for a smooth transition,” the Commissioner said.
The Kwara Garment Factory, one of the state’s flagship industrial projects, was established to boost local production, create jobs, and support small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) through textile and garment manufacturing.
The government expressed optimism that the new management structure will enhance efficiency, sustainability, and productivity at the factory once operations resume.
