The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Kwara State Wing, has disowned any planned protest by public school teachers in the state.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the NUT State Chairman, Comrade Yusuf Wahab Agboola, and the Deputy Secretary-General, Moni Mike Modesty Itua and a copy made available to Sobi FM.
The union said it did not order, authorise or direct teachers or any group to embark on any form of protest against any institution, individual or the Kwara State Government.
The union cautioned that anyone or group protesting in the name of public school teachers would be doing so at their own risk, describing such calls as illegal.
It therefore directed all teachers in Kwara State to ignore what it described as illegal calls for protest.
The union, however, expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for approving Teachers Specific Allowances (TSA) of 27.5 per cent and 21 per cent, saying the move fulfilled a major demand of the union.
“We sincerely appreciate the government for the thoughtful approval of the Teachers Specific Allowances in fulfilment of our demand,” the statement said.
